Personal: Share your story, who are you and why have you joined, where you live, what talents you have, your family, other animals, life purpose - anything about yourself.
My name is Libby and I currently live in Cincinnati, Ohio. I'm an Ohio born and raised 25 year old engineer, but more importantly, I'm a horsewoman! I have been in love with horses for as long as I can remember. My horse, Bama, is truly my best friend. She is a 17 hand, 8 year old Standardbred that I adopted after her racing career as a pacer came to an end. She is daughter of CAM BEST, a world record holder! :) She came to me with a lot of horsie "baggage" and generally behaved aggressively toward all people. Today she is a much different horse. She's brave, and she makes me so proud! :o) She nickers at me and I feel like we really are a herd of two. She's changed from a grouchy, aggressive and pushy mare to a kind eyed sweetheart. She still has her moments and there are still some behaviors that confused me. I'd like to learn as much as I can about these behaviors so that I can help her overcome these issues, or at the least, live a happier life in spite of them. My goal in my horsemanship is to have a very close bond with my own horse, but to gain a broad understanding of how to easily bond with any horse. I primarily use Parelli training techniques, as they have proven to be the clearest form of communication for Bama and I, but I am pretty open minded about training so long as it is always done with the horse's best interest in mind. I LOVE Mark Rashid and am also a new fan of Mary Ann Simond's after hearing her speak at the 2008 Equine Affaire in Columbus, OH. Last but no least, I love to help others. Nothing makes my heart smile more than being able to share my knowledge with others or lend a hand to others out at the barn. :)
Interest in Horses: Share if you love horses, have horses -what kind, ride-type of riding, any reasons you are connected with horses.
I grew up riding western but switched to english when I adopted Bama because I had this crazy idea that I had to ride english and post with her big trot. Turns out I can ride her trot fully seated pretty easily :) Today I am staying with English just to get a better appreciation of this style of riding versus western. I also like to ride bareback, as this really helps me with my balance and helps us both (Bama and I) learn how to communicate with seat and subtle cues. More info on Bama is above.
Career: Tell us what you do, if you have a horse-related business or other business, if you are a student, or want to have a career with horses.
I am an engineer at a consumer products company. I have a BS in Materials Science & Engineering from The Ohio State University. I specialized in polymers within my field.
MY D-R-E-A-M is to have a career with horses. I am working with a financial planner to increase the likelihood of being able to achieve this goal in the future. For now, I am making the most of my situation by getting involved in as many activities as I can. I take every opportunity to work with beginner riders and to learn about other horses in addition to my own. I'm lucky enough to be at a large boarding facility where I can interact with a wide variety of people and horses.
Horsewomen Community: How would you like to use this network? What do you have to share or want to learn? What kind of groups or people do you want to connect with?
I want to learn more about horse behavior, particularly MARES, whom to me seem to be even more complex than women :) I would also love to share my knowledge of Parelli and Mark Rashid with anyone who could benefit. I've also got a pretty large library of horse-related literature, and would be happy to share my suggestions on reading materials with others.

Welcome to the herd --I just sent you an e-mail message -so check your folder up above. Did we meet at Equine Affair? Your interest in mares is great and the subject of one of my talks/demos at Equine Affair. You joined the right herd. Look forward to involvement. Check out the forums and groups.
Thanks to you both :) Yes this is Bama in the photo. She LOVES to roll in the sandy indoor arena. She is a very funny personality... she must always roll before we can begin any work/play together. It's like she just needs to get some itchy spots taken care of before she is ready to focus! :)
