Personal: Share your story, who are you and why have you joined, where you live, what talents you have, your family, other animals, life purpose - anything about yourself.
I am a 58 year/old/young woman. I have had the luck to be with horses all my life. My father is deceased, but he was a jockey, what I didn't learn from him, I learned from my step-father, who used to be a steer wresting champion in his younger years. Later he trained horses for the racing circuit. and he always let me help. I had wanted to be a jockey like my father, but in those days that was not even a subject that was ever going to be discussed.
Interest in Horses: Share if you love horses, have horses -what kind, ride-type of riding, any reasons you are connected with horses.
My love for horses tops all lists, next is my love of dogs, followed by cats, and then people. At this time in my life I have only one horse. I board her at a Very good place. I have had her since she was five and now she is twenty. She has some medical problems, mostly breed related, but now some are age related. I ride much slower now, not only because of my age and injuries, but she is twenty, and Yahoo riding is getting to be a faded memory.
Career: Tell us what you do, if you have a horse-related business or other business, if you are a student, or want to have a career with horses.
I do not have a career. I just have a pretty good feel for horses, and some people just don't have a clue about the relationship you can have with a horse. I pity them for their inability to bond, but just like some people like cats over dogs, some people will never understand the bond that can be made between you and a horse. It's on a whole different level.
Horsewomen Community: How would you like to use this network? What do you have to share or want to learn? What kind of groups or people do you want to connect with?
Anybody, that has horses, likes horses, or has ever had the bond between them and their horse that they feel nobody could ever get/or feel. I have been having a hard time trying to find a "retirement community" that includes horses and horse people. But, so far everything is golf, shuffle board, or some bingo, or cards, or gambling. NOT FOR ME, yet my poor suffering husband has put up with my horse life and he has suffered his share of injuries, but, he basically is afraid of horses. We met in mid life.

Hey, there are just too many shadows on the members page and they are all right in a row. I tried to upload a substitute picture, but it seems that it works for new members, not existing. Would you like help uploading a picture ? Pauli or I can advise. It is really simple and we love to see pics of real people and horses.
There is growing interest in a planned community focused on what animal people really want --to grow old with your animal friends and helping others. It will take some zoning changes and an enlightened developer, but this is good time to start plans.
Welcome to the herd Terry. You might want to check out the Saddle Ridge equestrian community or contact Janie as she is a horse property realtor. I agree --we need a horse retirement community. Check out the forums and blogs as I have posted several discussions on this exact topic --where are the horse retirement communities for people who love animals not golf?? WE have several horse realtors, so we should be able to develop one.
