Profile

Personal: Share your story, who are you and why have you joined, where you live, what talents you have, your family, other animals, life purpose - anything about yourself.
First cognitive thought I remember, " I love horses", second thought "why have I come here?" Still not sure, but it seems to have something to do with weaving horses, nature, consciousness, ideas, wonderful people and networks together. I grew up riding with the High Riders in California when everyone knew everyone and we all talked to our horses and they talked back. Married a man who agreed that he was marrying me with my horses as they were a part of "me" -he has tolerated a lot of manure smell through the years. We live at Wisdom Stone Farm in SW Washington and I feel blessed to be surrounded by nature, animals, wonderful horses, family and friends.
Interest in Horses: Share if you love horses, have horses -what kind, ride-type of riding, any reasons you are connected with horses.
Growing up riding and jumping in California and being involved in the horse industry my whole professional life, I wanted a way to share the network of wonderful women I know involved with horses and share with the next generation of horse girls. I am so fortunate to have lived so many dreams from living out on the range studying wild horses to showing jumpers and dressage horses --from equine marketing to developing sustainable horse-friendly communities. My first horse was an orphaned morgan named High 'N'' Mighty. He was my mentor and teacher and validated to me that horses speak very clearly through non-verbal thoughts.
Career: Tell us what you do, if you have a horse-related business or other business, if you are a student, or want to have a career with horses.
I will have to think of something short and clever to put here as I have a lot of careers all interwoven that integrate my background and education in wildlife biology, range ecology, inter-disciplinary consciousness and organizational development. I'm a Virgo what can I say? I'm still creating, writing, researching, integrating, and looking for new ways to raise consciousness. I love horses, networking, educating and sharing with others. So along with my practice as an equine ecologist/etholgist I am gathering my friends to help develop this network.

Horsewomen Community: How would you like to use this network? What do you have to share or want to learn? What kind of groups or people do you want to connect with?
Well, aside from forcing all my friends with their great networks to join so we can all stay in touch -- I hope the community will provide a safe space to talk about the things that are missed in all the horse magazines and webs --the real stories, the feelings and intuitive thoughts, the connections we all have with horses on whatever level from dreamer to having a barn full of horses. Our industry is becoming more exclusive and I want to help to keep it an inclusive lifestyle so that the next generation of horse-loving girls will have wonderful women horse role models to follow.

Managing Shipping and Showing Stress in Horses

Managing Shipping and Showing Stress for Your Horse By Mary Ann Simonds People may see travel as an adventure and something to look forward to enjoy, but from a horse’s perspective separation from friends and home is rarely a fond experience. However, because horses are “associative learners”, a positive experience in travel can help the horse learn that travel to new places can be fun and a positive experience. Successful seasoned race horses and show horses are good examples of this type of… Continue

Mary Ann Simonds,

Hey, just would like to say that you have been an inspiration to me and my family. You have confirmed our ideas and beliefs about horses. In fact, I chose to give a speech on you in my public speaking class at school.(I hope you don't mind!)Thank you, very much.

Ps: I attended some of your seminars at Equine Affaire. It was really and truly great!

Hi, I was reading over my comments and saw yours from March, I don't think I ever thanked you properly. That was a really great idea, and now I might volunteer at a local horse/farm animal rescue with my friend. I also want to rescue premarin (PMU) mares and foals, along with mustangs. It would be really cool and I would learn a lot! Thanks again!

HI MA.... I am hearing your horse meditation and it is great!!!
The dolphins in Hawaii were amazing. I swam with them about 14 days this time and one day I was in the water for 5 hours.. I thought of you and Bill and I hope you felt the love and good energy..
One day there were about 200 dolphins in the Bay.. It was like a dolphin conference and I got out there really early before anyone was around and I took about 20 leaves with me and dropped them way down and it was like dolphin mania.. They were going everywhere all around and playing and having fun...They were also swimming really close and slow this time...
I want to find out more about your Tuscany friend because we have trips there this Spring and Fall.. Maybe I will be close to her.
You are the BEST and I love all that you have done

Love and hugs.... Colleen C
